Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. – The 11
th-ranked Cal State San Marcos baseball team dropped its fourth game in a row on Tuesday afternoon, 5-3, to Biola at Eagles Diamond.
The Cougars (22-6) loaded the bases in each of the fourth and fifth innings, but came away with just a single run, while the Eagles (21-17) scored two in both the fifth and sixth to provide the difference in the ballgame.
Brandon Bentson's RBI single brought home
Kyle Secciani to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning.
Kody Sepulveda singled to right and
Kyle Kuck walked to load the bases, but Marcuz Meraz fouled out before Josh Staumont (5-5) struck out pinch-hitter
Manny Cardeiro on three pitches to end the inning.
CSUSM came knocking once again in the fifth, loading the bases with one out. However, Bentson's line drive was caught by the short stop who easily caught a stranded
Tyler Bernard to end the threat.
The Eagles answered in the bottom half of the fifth, as Benji Sutherland knocked a two-run, two-out double off
Kevin Hilton (4-2) to make it 3-1.
An RBI single by Meraz brought home Kuck after Kuck's double down the line in the sixth to make it 3-2.
Biola added two more in the bottom half of the stanza to push the lead to 5-2.
Secciani notched a triple to drive in Bernard in the top of the seventh for the Cougars' final run.
CSUSM plays a three-game set on Friday and Sunday at home against La Sierra.
