Weekend Preview
The Cougars open the weekend with a clash against A.I.I. conference opponent British Columbia, who they have defeated in all three previous matchups. The most recent meeting between the teams came at this tournament last year, where CSUSM
run-ruled British Columbia 10-2 in six innings. The Thunderbirds from Canada have won four of their last five games, with their only loss being a 5-2 loss to No. 2 Lubbock Christian (Tex.).
Next up is a meeting with Dickenson State, who the Cougars are 2-1 against lifetime. CSUSM
defeated the Blue Hawks 7-2 in the A.I.I. Tournament last season, with
Olivia Lucatuorto hitting a two-run homerun to ignite the Cougar offense.
The final game for San Marcos Saturday pits the Cougars against the Judson University Eagles. The two teams have never met, but the Eagles were 28-27 in 2012.
To wrap up the weekend, the Cougars will play a doubleheader against A.I.I. member Jamestown. CSUSM has never faced the Jimmies, who were 28-23 last season and 9-8 in the A.I.I.
Wilkinson's No-no
The Tucson Invitational is likely to bring back good memories for Cougar pitcher
Katie Wilkinson. The sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif. hurled a
no-hitter in an 8-0 victory against No. 13 St. Gregory's (Okla.) last season, allowing just two walks over six hitless innings.
Alex Miller aided in the run-rule victory by going 3-for-4 with a double, homerun, and five RBI.
