No-No
To call the Cougars' first-ever no-hitter unconventional would be an understatement. Six CSUSM pitchers combined to no-hit Bethesda in game one on Friday.  Starter Mike Scaramella worked the first three innings, Kevin Hilton worked a pair, and Addison Domingo, Jackson Gaskins, Tony Guerra and Matt Bataska each recorded an inning on the mound. The unit combined for eight strikeouts and a pair of walks. The Flames generated just five runners in the contest, three of them via Cougar errors.

Seven In a Row
CSUSM improved to 7-0 with four wins last week, two against Bethesda and two over Chapman.  The Cougars have never won their first seven games. In 2011 and 2012, the Cougars started 6-1 overall over their first seven contests.

Get Bent(son)
Freshman first baseman Brandon Bentson has played a primary role in CSUSM's hot start. He's tied with Kenny Belzer for the team-lead (for any player with 10 or more at-bats) with a .381 batting average and eight hits. Last week, Bentson went 6-for-11 (.545) with four RBI and a .636 slugging percentage. He added 28 putouts, four assists and was the only infielder not to commit an error. He ranks fourth in the nation with 9.29 putouts per game.

Staff Infection
The Cougar pitching staff has been remarkable to this point. CSUSM has the fifth-lowest ERA (1.37) and opposing batting average (.172) in the nation. The group allowed just four earned runs last week and four different pitchers have recorded wins this season. Frank Charlton is yet to surrender an earned run in five appearances and leads the team with a 3-0 record. James Dykstra is 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA.

Biola Preview
The Eagles enter Tuesday's match-up after winning three of four games against Azusa Pacific. Biola leads the nation in total hits (176) and is third with 118 runs scored and 111 RBI. Paul Slater has scored the most runs in the NAIA with 20 and pitcher Trevor Oaks leads the nation with 37 strikeouts. CSUSM went 3-1 against Biola in 2012.

La Sierra Preview
The going has been rough for La Sierra so far this season. The Golden Eagles are 0-8 overall and have found themselves on the wrong side of four one-run ball games already. La Sierra fell in both games of a doubleheader at Occidental College on February 10, 4-3 and 2-0 in 10 innings. CSUSM went 3-0 against La Sierra in 2012.

News & Notes
Belzer hit an inside-the-park homerun in game one against Bethesda on Friday … He finished with seven RBI last week … Kyle Kuck was 3-for-6 last week … James Dykstra has gone seven innings in each of his starts so far … Belzer has a 2.57 ERA in two starts for CSUSM and has registered a no-decision each time … Tyler Bernard leads the team with 27 assists at shortstop and is fifth in the nation with 3.86 assists per game.
