Ranger Propels No. 7 CSUSM to 14th-Straight Win

Box Score SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Jacob Ranger scored a game-high 20 points and hit 5-of-8 3-pointers as the No. 7 Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team topped UC Santa Cruz 88-55 on Saturday night at the Slug Dome.

CSUSM (22-4) increases its win streak to 14 games with the victory, its fifth-straight win of 30 or more points.
 
Adam Eakles added a career-high 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting, adding a game-high nine boards in the process. Jose Rivera also hit five 3-pointers (5-of-9) and finished with 17 points and five assists.

Eakles, Ranger and Danny Redmon each tallied three steals, helping the Cougars force 21 Slug turnovers.

CSUSM opened up a 10-point advantage midway through the first half before using a 14-3 run to increase its lead to 39-19 with 4:42 remaining in the frame.

A Quincy Lawson free throw increased the lead to 30 midway through the second half and UCSC never came back within 18 in the final frame.

The Cougars have two games remaining in the regular season.

On Thursday, CSUSM faces defending national champion Concordia (Calif.) in Irvine. CUI was the last team to defeat the Cougars this season in an official contest on Dec. 8, 2012.

CSUSM's final game of the season is Saturday, February 23 against Bethesda at MiraCosta College. Tip-off is set for 7:30. 10 Cougar seniors will be honored for their service to the men's basketball program before the game.
