AJ Gasporra scored 22 points,
Jose Rivera added 13 with four 3-pointers, and the 15
th-ranked Cougars used a 10-2 run late in the second half to put away The Master's College, 74-64, on Saturday night at Bross Gymnasium.
CSUSM (14-4) extended its win streak to a program-best six games and has won nine of its last 10; the Cougars have not lost since a Dec. 8 tilt against defending national champion Concordia (Calif.).
After TMC (11-4) fell behind by as much as 13 in the first half and eight in the second half, the Mustangs edged within three, 63-60, on Chris Patureau's jumper with 4:46 remaining.
Bryan Emanuel answered with a put-back to make it 65-60 and
Danny Redmon hit a jumper to put the Cougars up seven with 1:45 left.
Patureau pulled The Master's within five on the Mustangs' next trip down the floor, but Gasporra hit another jumper with under a minute remaining before adding a pair of free throws to cap off the run with CSUSM leading 73-62 with 28 seconds left.
Gasporra went 5-of-10 from the field and an impressive 10-of-11 from the stripe. CSUSM was outrebounded 38-28, but forced 18 TMC turnovers while committing just 10.
Quincy Lawson pulled down a team-high eight boards while adding six points in the win.
Jacob Ranger went 3-of-4 from the floor and made both of his 3-point attempts for a total of eight points.
Patureau finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Mustangs while Leif Karlberg added 14 and six.
CSUSM will look to extend its streak to seven against Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday night at MiraCosta College. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
