LA MIRADA, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos women's volleyball team might not ever want to leave Chase Gymnasium, and who can blame them? For the second consecutive season, the Cougars went 4-0 in the Biola Summer Slam, highlighted by a four set victory over No. 8 Lewis-Clark State 25-18, 25-19, 24-26, 25-20. CSUSM also went on to defeat the College of Idaho in straight sets 25-19, 25-22, 25-20 to cap off an excellent two-day stretch.

The Cougars, who defeated two ranked NAIA opponents in last year's Summer Slam, came out strong in their first match against a ranked opponent this season. Carrying momentum from yesterday's straight set victories over Concordia (Ore.) and William Jessup, CSUSM won the first two sets against the Warriors by closing out the first set on a 10-1 run and the second set with a 9-4 stretch.

After dropping a tight third set 26-24 and trailing 0-5 in the fourth, CSUSM caught fire again to claim the final set 25-20 to seal the victory. The win was the fifth in school history against a top 25 opponent, improving the Cougars record against ranked foes to 1-0 in 2012 and 5-6 all-time.

Lindsey Mitchell led all scorers with 19 kills, and Taylor DeGraaf recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs. Brittany Thompson added five total blocks and five kills for the Cougars with an error-free .455 hitting percentage. Erin Talafus also tallied five blocks in the match, as both her and Thompson tied the school single-game record for blocks in a game.

In the evening match against the College of Idaho, Cal State San Marcos jumped out to an early 11-3 lead in the first set and never looked back, sweeping their opponent for the sixth time in nine matches this season.

Taylor DeGraaf picked up her fourth double-double of the tournament, and sixth of the season with game-highs of 14 kills and 12 digs. Brittany Thompson had another efficient game, notching eight kills with a team-high .400 hitting percentage, in addition to a game-high four service aces.

The No. 23 Cougars (7-2) will return to San Marcos briefly before hitting the road again next weekend to play in the University of Great Falls Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. CSUSM will have a chance to prove themselves once again as they will face No. 21 Carroll in the first game of action on Saturday, September 1 at 10:00 am.
