In the first match, the Cougars claimed a tight first set on a kill by Lindsey Mitchell, and never looked back en route to a straight set 25-23, 25-15, 25-16 victory. The game marked the first ever meeting between the teams.

Sophomore outside hitter Taylor DeGraaf recorded her third double-double of the young season, notching a season-high 19 kills and 10 digs. Brittany Thompson also had a nice game with 9 kills and an efficient .583 hitting percentage, in addition to 2 aces, 5 digs, and 2 blocks.

The match against William Jessup went relatively smooth until the third set, but the Cougars prevailed in straight sets once again 25-17, 25-15, 42-40. The final set was the highest scoring set in school history, easily surpassing the previous record of 33-31 set in the A.I.I. Tournament against Jamestown last season.

With CSUSM down 24-23 and on the brink of dropping the third set, Andi Vordermann recorded a clutch kill to even the score at 24. The teams traded points with neither side able to win by two until Lindsey Mitchell recorded back to back kills to clinch the set 42-40. Mitchell ended the match with seven kills and a .538 hitting percentage. Taylor DeGraaf led all scorers again with 15 kills and picked up her fourth double-double of 2012, and Jaycee Arthur reached double-digits in kills for the first time this season with 12.

The Cougars (5-2) will take the court at Chase Gymnasium again tomorrow morning at 12:30 pm in a Top-25 matchup against No. 8 Lewis-Clark State (3-3) and then again against College of Idaho at 6:30 pm. Lewis-Clark State will be the first ranked opponent the Cougars face in 2012. CSUSM went 4-6 against ranked opponents last year, including a 3-2 victory over then No. 7 Lewis-Clark State.
