Results
The Cal State San Marcos Men's and Women's Track and Field teams wrapped up the final day of the 2012 NAIA National Championships by recording 9 more All-American awards, giving the team 15 total for the meet. All-American recognitions are awarded to the top-eight finishers in each event.
The women's marathon started the string of strong performances by the Cougars, led by Cady Villareal's 6
th place finish. Villareal scored 3 points for the team in just her second marathon ever, running 3:06:53 over the 26.2 mile course. For Cady, it was her 2
nd Track and Field All-American award, and 5
th total. She has been an All-American in each of the last 3 years while leading the Cougars to 3 consecutive National Championships.
Following that was the Women's 4x100 meter relay of
Ashley Jsames,
Krystle Osby,
Tiffany West, and
Amber Rosario, who finished 7
th with a time of 46.35- breaking their own school record by .03 of a second.
In the men's 1500m, senior
Daniel Lyon navigated his way through a competitive field to a 5
th place finish in 3:49.08, receiving Track and Field All-American recognition for the second time, along with his two cross country All-American awards.
Ashley Jsames picked up some critical points for the team with a 4
th place finish in the 400 hurdles, breaking a minute for the first time, and breaking her own school record with a time of 59.75. She earned her first All-American award in her first season at San Marcos.
Cross Country All-American and last year's 3
rd place finisher in the 5000
Suzanne Cornwell battled head to head with Azusa Pacific's Lauren Jimison in the 5000m this year before taking second with a time of 17:35.65- well ahead of the rest of the pack. She received her second Track and Field All-American award and her third total.
To cap of the day, the Women's 4x400m relay of
Ashley Jsames,
Tiffany West, Briana Gibas, and
Amber Rosario placed 6
th with a blistering time of 3:45.89, earning each of the athletes All-American recognition.
In total, the CSUSM Women's Track and Field team scored 34 points and finished 8
th place overall. The Cougars also received points from
Kelly Thompson (5
th, 10000m),
Yachi Fails (5
th, Long Jump),
Amber Rosario (4
th, 100H), and the men's 4x800 team (7th) in action prior to Saturday.
The Men's Track and Field team picked up two points from the 4x800 relay Friday and four from
Daniel Lyon's in the 1500m for a 39
th place finish with 6 points.
