CSUSM Track and Field fares well at Mangrum Invitational

Cougars hit several NAIA ‘A’ Standards at home meet


Meet Results

The Cal State San Marcos Track and Field team competed in their only home meet of the year Saturday, hosting the Mangrum Invitational during a beautiful afternoon at the CSUSM track. The Cougars had several top performances throughout the day, and recorded several NAIA 'A' standards.

Women

On the track, Krystle Osby took 3rd place in the 100m, running 12.08 and eclipsing the 'A' standard by .02. Tiffany West ran 57.62 in the 400m, placing 2nd overall, and Michelle Cruz took 3rd in the 800 in 2:21.79.

Kelly Thompson (4:46.78) and Chelsey Cortez (4:52.77) placed 2nd and 4th respectively in the 1500m, and Suzanne Cornwell (10:10) won the 3000m while Cady Villareal (10:39) and Heidi Swanson (10:53) placed 4th and 5th.

The Cougars fared really well in the both hurdle races, as Amber Rosario won the 100H in 14.35, and Ashley Jsames won the 400H in 1:01.95. Rosario placed 3rd in the 400H 1:06.71. CSUSM also won both the 4x100 (47.01) and 4x400 (3:56.6) relays, while the 4x100 ran the 4th fastest time in the NAIA this season.

In the field events, Melissa Olmos won the high jump with a leap of 1.57 meters, and Calah Ayer won the pole vault in 3.25m.

Yachi Fails, the national leader in the long jump this year, placed 2nd in the long jump with a hop of 18 feet 9 inches, and won the triple jump with 37 feet, 5.75 inches.

 
Men

Daniel Lyon hit the national 'A' standard en route to a win in the 3000m steeplechase, and Western Nelson took second in the 3000m in 8:41.69. The men's 4x100 placed 3rd in the 4x100 relay in 42.8 seconds.

Off the track, Greg Talley won the high jump with a jump of 6 feet 9 inches, and Trevor Long- Anastasia placed third in the triple jump at 47 feet 2.25 inches. Dylan Kirchburg took 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 168 feet 10 inches.

The Cougars compete next at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational next Saturday, April 14th.
