The #2 ranked Cal State San Marcos Softball team continued their season-long stretch of dominance on the mound, holding Vanguard to just 7 hits en route to a doubleheader victory over the Lions at the CSUSM Softball Field Thursday.
Game 1 (CSUSM 6 – Vanguard 1)

The Cougars scored a run in the first on an RBI groundout by
Alex Miller, but Vanguard tied the game at 1 in the top of the fourth inning of CSUSM starter
Cortney Allen. However, CSUSM bounced back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, and the game was never close again, as Allen would allow just the one run all game, picking up her 13
th win.
Middle infielders
Olivia Lucatuorto and Sarah Quimbao each had two hits in the victory, and
Alyssa Dronenburg launched her 13
th homerun of the season.
Game 2 (CSUSM 2 – Vanguard 1)

CSUSM starting pitcher
Katie Wilkinson didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, but the game was close throughout as San Marcos scored just two runs all game. Both runs came on back-to-back RBI doubles by
Alyssa Dronenburg and
Alex Miller in the third inning. Dronenburg went 2-for-2 with a walk, pushing her batting average up to .500 on the season.
Vanguard cut the lead to one after an unearned run in the sixth inning, but Jordan Lamouroux closed out the final inning and a third to pick up her 4
th save and secure the Cougar victory. Wilkinson moved to 12-0 after allowing just one hit in 5 2/3 innings.
The Cougars are now 38-3, while Vanguard drops to 27-20 on the year. CSUSM plays next Saturday April 14
th at Hope International.
