The Cal State San Marcos Track and Field team competed at the UC Irvine Steve Scott Invitational, named after their coach who starred for the Anteaters before going on to be a two-time Olympian.

The Cougars recorded several top performances, highlighted by Amber Rosario's school record in the 200m. Rosario ran 24.55, beating her previous record of 24.64 set two weeks ago at the Pomona Pitzer Invitational. Amber almost broke another school record in the 100 hurdles, running 12.29-- just .08 off the mark set by Ashleigh Davis in 2008.

Other highlights for CSUSM included Deng Akuien and Ishmael Rodriguez narrowly missing the NAIA 'B' standard in the steeplechase, as they ran 9:33 and 9:34 respectively.

Greg Talley placed 3rd overall in the high jump with a leap of 2.05 meters, just a centimeter off his personal best and school record.

Daniel Lyon, already a double qualifier for NAIA Nationals in the 3000m steeplechase and the 5000m, just missed the 'A' standard in the 800m by five hundredths of a second, running 1:53.55. He also doubled up with an 'A' standard  in the 1500m, running 3:50.90.

The Cougars will compete again next week at the Occidental Invitational in Los Angeles.
