The Cal State San Marcos Baseball team darted out to early leads in both games against visiting La Sierra on their way to two easy victories over the Golden Eagles Sunday afternoon at the CSUSM Baseball Field.
In the first game, the team's regular first baseman
Kenny Belzer earned his first start on the mound, allowing just a single the first batter he faced before retiring the next 15 batters in order. Belzer (1-1) struck out 4 before turning it over to the bullpen.
Darren Gay went the final 3 2/3 innings to pick up his first save of the year.
Offensively,
Kyle Secciani ripped his 4
th homerun of the season and went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
Trent Jemmett hit a double and a triple, and
Jeremy Baum went 3-4 with a triple as well. Freshman catcher
Jack Kramer ripped a pinch-hit line drive single to record his first career hit as a Cougar in the eighth inning.
In the second game, the Cougars scored at least 3 runs each inning except for the second as the offense scored 17 runs on 17 hits.
Austin Coleman and
Michael Mecucci each homered and knocked an additional extra base hit as every starting Cougar either scored a run or recorded an RBI. Andrew Larson (1-2) picked up his first win of the season in his first start, going four innings and allowing just one earned run.
