Box Score 2
The #23 Cal State San Marcos Baseball team put together one of the most complete games this season en route to a 15-run victory, but ran out of gas in game 2, splitting Saturday's doubleheader at the CSUSM Baseball Field with San Diego Christian.
Game 1 (CSUSM 15- SDC 0)
Box Score
After a quite three innings in which neither team scored, CSUSM broke the game open in the fourth inning when
Anthony Renteria hit a grand slam to right field to extend a 1-0 lead to 5-0. Renteria leads the Cougars with 9 homeruns this season.
The run support would be more than enough for starting pitcher
James Dykstra, who was as lights out as any Cougar has been all season. Dykstra pitched 8 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 11 Hawk batters.
Offensively, every batter in the starting lineup either knocked in a run or scored themselves. Leadoff hitter
Trent Jemmett had a gem of a game, going 4-for 5 with 3 runs and 3 RBIs.
Game 2 (SDC 2- CSUSM 0)
Box Score
Starting pitcher
Frank Charlton had a solid outing, going 5 2/3 innings while allowing just two runs, but the offense couldn't keep the momentum rolling against lefty Lucas Whitmore of San Diego Christian.
The Cougars out-hit the Hawks 5 to 4 and stole 4 bases, but couldn't get a run across when they needed it. CSUSM now stands at 21-13 on the season, and San Diego Christian improved to 17-22 after the split.
