The red-hot Cal State San Marcos Softball team added three more wins to their win streak Saturday, defeating William Jessup 8-5, and Hope International twice 8-0 and 5-0. The Cougars are now 26-2 on the season after winning their 17th consecutive game. CSUSM is a perfect 13-0 in the 2012 Cougar Clash, with just two more games remaining tomorrow.

Game 1 (CSUSM 8 – William Jessup 5)

Box Score

The Cougars put together two big innings to defeat a tough William Jessup team, starting with 3 runs in the first. Alex Miller's double brought home Kaitlin McGinley to give the Cougars the early lead, and San Marcos scored two more on a dropped fly ball to make the score 3-0.

The score remained the same until William Jessup picked up a run in the 5th inning with an RBI double off CSUSM starting pitcher Katie Wilkinson. However, it was the only run the Warriors would score off Wilkinson, who went 4 2/3 innings and moved to 8-0 on the season.

Cal State San Marcos scored 5 runs in the bottom half of the 5th inning to put the game out of reach, highlighted by home runs by 1st baseman Alyssa Dronenburg and 3rd baseman Theresa Houle. It was the 8th homerun of the season for each of the sluggers.

William Jessup hit a grand slam with 2 outs in the 7th to bring the final score closer, but Jordan Lamoureux got the next batter to fly out to end the game and earn her 3rd save of the season.

Game 2 (CSUSM 8 – Hope International 0) *5 innings

Box Score

Starting Pitcher Cortney Allen (8-2) continued to amaze, pitching yet another complete game shutout and extending her scoreless innings streak to 20 innings. Allen has allowed just 2 earned runs in her last 40 1/3 innings pitched— a 0.45 ERA over that stretch.

Offensively the Cougars got in done early and often once again, clubbing 10 hits and scoring 8 runs in just 5 innings. Alicia Ingram, Alex Miller and Brittany Grier each went 2-for3, and the freshman Grier hit her first career home run down the left field line in the 5th inning.

Game 3 (CSUSM 5 – Hope International 0)

Box Score

The Cougars posted their second shutout of the day, this time thanks to freshman Kimberle Smith, who kept the visiting Royals guessing all game, allowing just 3 hits while pitching the full 7 innings. Smith had a no-hitter going until the 5th inning, aided by some smooth defensive plays on her part, and struck out 4 on the game.

CSUSM scored in the opening inning for the 5th consecutive game on an Alyssa Dronenburg 2 RBI single, and ran away with the game in the 3rd when Olivia Lucatuorto and Caitlin Monnahan each had RBI knocks to make the score 4-0. Lucatuorto hit an RBI double in the 5th inning to pad the lead to 5.

Kaitlin McGinley and Alicia Ingram each had a stolen base in the game, making them first and second respectively in the NAIA in steals. McGinley has 18 on the season, and Ingram is just one behind at 17.

Cal State San Marcos plays again tomorrow against La Sierra at 11:00 am and against Greensboro College (NC) at 3:00 pm.
