The Cal State San Marcos Women's Basketball team earned a tough victory on the road, defeating Cal Maritime 73-67 in a physical, defensive battle Thursday night.
The game was closely contested throughout, and both teams fought to a 31-31 score at halftime. CSUSM was able to pull away in the second half by playing lockdown defense, holding CSUSM to just 23% shooting in the second half, and just 29% on the game.
Free throws were the theme for the evening, as there were 57 fouls called on the night. CSUSM capitalized by attempting a season high 45 free throws, hitting 27 of them.
5 different Cougars scored in double digits, with
Sidney Dobner leading the way with 15 points. Post players Gabriel Munsch (10 points, 13 rebounds) and
Danielle Cooper (12 points, 10 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles.
CSUSM (13-13) plays again today against Holy Names in Oakland before returning home to face La Sierra next Saturday.
