The Cal State San Marcos Baseball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, but the Cougars never held a lead after that, losing both games to Vanguard. With the pair of losses, CSUSM drops to 9-5 on the season.

The Cougars scored 2 runs in the first inning on an error and a RBI single by
Austin Coleman, but Vanguard starting hitting Cougar starter
Frank Charlton the 3
rd inning, scoring 5 runs and taking a lead they would never relinquish.
CSUSM started the 9th inning down 10-4, but brought the tying run to the plate after scoring two runs and then loading the bases, but Vanguard reliever Terry Unruh was able to close the game out.
Outfielder
Anthony Renteria reached base in all 5 plate appearances, recording a single, two walks, and was hit by a pitch twice. 3
rd Baseman
Austin Coleman also reached base 5 times, going 3-for-3 with 2 walks, picking up 2 RBI's as well.
Adam Tapia was a nice sparkplug for the Cougars off the bench, recording a single, a double, and a walk after entering the game in the 5
th inning.
Frank Charlton took the loss, and is now 2-1 on the season.
Game 2 (Vanguard 22 – CSUSM 0) *7 innings

The visiting Lions jumped on the Cougars with 5 runs in the opening frame, and never looked back, scoring a run in each of the first 6 innings.
Austin Coleman and
Dylan Costello each picked up a double for the San Marcos, but other than that the Cougars were able to get little done on offense against Vanguard ace Scott Simmons. CSUSM starter
Scott Myers recorded the loss, and moves to 1-2 on the year.
CSUSM plays next on Tuesday, February 28
th at home against La Sierra.
