The Cal State San Marcos Baseball team hit six home runs and pounded out 18 hits in defeating the Bethesda University Ballers 17-4 Friday afternoon at the CSUSM Baseball Field. Third Baseman
Austin Coleman contributed two homers to the cause, including a three-run shot in the 3rd inning, as well as well as a solo homerun in the sixth. Coleman ended up 3 for 4 on the day with 5 RBI's and came across the plate to score 3 times for the Cougars.
Anthony Renteria hit an inside-the-park homerun in the 6th inning, adding on to
Kyle Secciani's solo homerun to add insurance runs for the Cougars.
Kenny Belzer also had an outstanding day with the bat, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI's and belting a deep homerun. Outfielder Corey McCloskey showed his speed in addition to his skills at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two triples and a double. Shortstop
Jeremy Baum got into the mix as well, adding a two-run home run, his first of the season.
Steven Schafer started the game for the Cougars on the mound and went 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs. Lefty
Vince Rizzo followed Schafer, allowing one inning run in the fourth before CSUSM relievers Geoff Landry (1-0) and
Seth Smith shut down Bethesda for the day with 3 scoreless innings to finish off the 7-inining game. The Cougars did not commit any errors on defense, and CSUSM batters did not strike out once all game.
With the win the Cougars improve to 7-1 on the season and have a 5-game winning streak heading into Saturday's doubleheader at Azusa Pacific. CSUSM's next home game is Monday, February 20th at 2 PM against Chapman University
