Cougars Grounded by Eagles

LOS ANGELES – Mechel'la Logan and Anna Nguyen led the Cougars with 11 points apiece, but the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team fell 68-48 to Cal State LA on Thursday night at The Eagles Nest.

CSULA (0-0) used a 10 minute, 19-0 run to put the Cougars in a 28-4 hole with five minutes left in the first half. Logan responded with nine consecutive points and Sarah Jackson added a lay-up to cut the lead to 12, but CSUSM (2-2) could not cut the deficit to single digits the rest of the way.

Nguyen shot 4-of-9 from the field and made 3-of-7 three point attempts, a season-high for the Cougars. Danielle Cooper pitched in with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Cougars were held to 15-of-57 from the field and were forced into 30 turnovers by CSULA, a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) squad. The CCAA is compromised of NCAA Division II institutions.

CSULA was buoyed by 18 points from Tessondra Williams and 12 points from Bree Parsons. The Cougars held the Eagles to 36.4 percent (24-of-66) shooting.

CSUSM turns around to face the University of San Diego in an exhibition at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego.

CSULA played Thursday's game as an exhibition.
