MAYVILLE, N.D.— The 2012 A.I.I. Volleyball Championships are set to take place Friday and Saturday November 9-10, with the Cal State San Marcos women's volleyball team (24-13) looking to defend their title as the No. 1 seed.

The Cougars, ranked 19th in the NAIA, are one of six teams competing for the conference championship. The teams will also be battling for one of two automatic bids to the NAIA National Championships, which will go to the top two finishers.

CSUSM will begin their quest Friday with two games in pool play. The top two teams from each pool will advance to Saturday's semifinal matches. The winner of each of the two semifinals will automatically advance to the NAIA National Championships, and play for the honor of the A.I.I. Championship.

The first opponent for Cal State San Marcos will be local rival La Sierra, who the Cougars defeated in the A.I.I. Championship match last year, and have taken two out of three matchups between the teams this season. Following the first game, CSUSM will take on tournament host Mayville State.
