Barstow Community College small forward Mechel'La Logan has committed to join the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team.
The 5'9” graduate of Southeast Career Technical Academy (SECTA) in Las Vegas will be entering her junior season when she suits up for the Cougars this winter. As a freshman in the 2008-2009 season, Logan burst onto the scene by averaging 18.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.6 steals per game. She shot 44% from the field, posted two 30-point games, and scored in double digits in all 24 games she played in, earning a First Team All-Conference selection.
Logan suffered a knee injury at the end of her freshman year, forcing her to redshirt during the 2009-2010 season. She returned as a sophomore last year, playing in 27 of the team's 28 games and averaging 12.2 points and nearly 3 steals per game. Logan scored double-digit points in 19 games, and was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection, as well as a First Team All-Tournament selection in three of the team's tournaments.
““Mechel'La is a terrific slasher and scorer, a tremendous competitor and athlete, and a great rebounder!” commented CSUSM Head Coach Sheri Jennum.
At SECTA, Logan was a three-time All-League selection as well as the Sunrise League MVP.
Mechel'La graduated from Barstow with a 3.4 GPA and will major in Business Administration at CSUSM. She is supported by parents Sandra and Charles, older sister Laqueasha, older brother Cletis Key and nephew Terry Smith.
