CSU San Marcos Finishes #21 in NAIA Director’s Cup

CSUSM Athletics records highest Director's Cup finish ever for the program.

Cal State San Marcos has finished 21st in the 2010-11 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup NAIA Final Standings, which were released on Friday.

It is the highest finish ever for CSUSM Athletics in the nation-wide competition, which assigns points to schools based on their teams' finishes in NAIA National Championship competition.  The standings include results from the fall, winter, and the recently-completed spring season.

“This is a great testament to the quality of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, especially when you remember that our athletic program is only ten years old,” commented Athletic Director Tom Seitz.  “ It is also further evidence that CSUSM athletics is headed in the right direction and will become even more of a force when we add men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball next year.”

CSUSM finished with a program-best 428.50 points to place 21st out of the over 300 schools in the NAIA.  The accomplishment is particularly impressive given that CSUSM did not compete in men's and women's basketball, tennis, volleyball, football, or swimming this past year.  Scoring big for the Cougars were the women's cross-country team, who earned 100 points by winning their second straight national title, and the softball team that finished fourth nationally to earn 83 points.

Azusa Pacific won the 2010-2011 Director's Cup with a total of 820.75 points.
