Steve Scott's Cal State San Marcos track & field team headed to Occidental College for their final regular season meet before the National Championships.
At the event, the women's 4x100-meter relay team met the “B” qualifying standard for Nationals, running 48.12. The squad consists of Aimee Rassavong, Krystle Osby, Tiffany West, and Savanna Holmen. Osby also finished 11th in the 100-meter dash, running 12.32.
The 4x400-meter relay team of West, Lucia Asbury, Brianna Gibas, and Amber Rosario won Saturday's race with a time of 3:48.39. They'll be representing CSUSM at Nationals.
Four members of CSUSM's back-to-back National Championship winning cross-country competed on Saturday, and all have met the “A” standard at Nationals in the 5,000-meter run. Leading the way was Suzanne Cornwell in 5th place at 17:11.87, and joining her were Jessica Sandoval (11th, 17:18.17), Jen Albright (17:23.93), and Kelly Thompson (17:27.91).
Michelle Cruz took 14th in the 800-meter, running 2:14.57 to meet the “B” standard level for Nationals.
In the field, Yachi Fails tied for 6th in the long jump at 5.40 meters, and Andrea Talhami posted a distance of 11.52 meters in the triple jump. Both will be heading to Nationals, having previously met the “A” standard.
On the men's side, four-time All-American Brett Campfield ran 1:50.22 in the 800-meter, finishing 10th in a loaded field. He'll be running in the 800 and the 1,500 at Nationals.
Joining Campfield will be fellow distance runners Dan Lyon and Western Nelson, who ran 14:30.39 and 14:32.35 in the 5,000-meter run, finishing 9th and 11th, respectively.
Jonathan Alpizar finished 9th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running 9:30.22.
All the qualifiers for Coach Steve Scott's team will be competing at the NAIA Track & Field National Championships from May 26-28 in Marion, Indiana.
