Women’s 4x800-Meter Team Qualifies for Nationals at Irvine

Just one meet remaining in regular season

Results

Competing at the event named after its coach, the Cal State San Marcos Track & Field team was at UC Irvine for the Steve Scott Invitational on Saturday for their penultimate meet of the regular season.

That meant it was the second-to-last chance to qualify for May's NAIA National Championships, and the women's 4x800-meter relay team took full advantage.  Running for the first time this season, the squad did what was expected of them, running 9:19.67 to easily meet the “A” standard for Nationals.

Much of the team sat the meet out, given its proximity to Nationals.  High finishers for the Cougars included David Cummings taking 8th in the 5,000-meter at 15:16.60 and Dylan Kirchberg placing 8th in the javelin with a distance of 53.38 meters.  Also competing in the field were pole vaulters Calah Ayer and Meghan Freund, and hammer throw school record-holder Alison Ogilvie, among others.

CSUSM's final meet before Nationals will be next week's Occidental Invitational.
