Cougar Track & Field Closes Out Competition at Cal-Nevada Championships

Coach Steve Scott's track & field team finished up competition at the Cal-Nevada Championships on Sunday, as the large meet hosted at Claremont Mudd-Scripps came to a close.

The CSUSM track & field team had a nice showing, with the women's side finishing in 12th place out of 23 teams with 21 points, and the men's side finishing 14th place out of 22 teams with 22 points.

Among those competing for the Cougars on Sunday were four-time All-American Brett Campfield, who took 3rd in the 800-meter.  Campfield, who runs a wide variety of distances, came in at 1:50.50 in Sunday's 800, easily meeting the “A” qualifying standard for Nationals.  He would also run in the 1,500-meter, finishing 8th with a time of 3:57.46.

On the women's side, Heidi Swanson placed 6th in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:45.50.

The women's 4x100 team of Aimee Rassavong, Krystle Osby, Tiffany West, and Savanna Holmen just missed the “B” standard, finishing in 12th place with a time of 48.78 seconds.  In the 4x400, the team of Brianna Gibas, Lucia Asbury, Michelle Cruz, and Amber Rosario finished 11th with a time of 3:54.31.  That group will represent CSUSM at Nationals.

Long Beach State won the men's competition with 155 points, while San Diego State won the women's with 132 points.
