Cal State San Marcos track & field was in action Saturday, competing locally at the Point Loma Collegiate Open at Point Loma Nazarene.
Highlighting the women's side was the 4x400-meter relay team, who earned the “A” qualifying standard for the NAIA National Championships. The team of Brianna Gibas, Lucia Asbury, Michelle Cruz, and Amber Rosario ran 3:53.4 to place second at the event.
The Cougars swept the top-three spots in the 800-meter run, with Asbury leading the way at 2:17.38 to win the race. Cruz was right behind her at 2:17.53, and Heidi Swanson took third at 2:19.08.
Swanson also took third in the 1,500-meter, running 4:53.68.
Also competing individually for CSUSM was Rosario, who once again met the “B” qualifying standard in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing as the runner-up at 15.01 seconds.. Sprinter Krystle Osby placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.60 seconds. Tiffany West took fourth in the 200-meter at 26.07 seconds. The 4x100 team of Aimee Rassavong, Osby, West, and Savanna Holmes took second place with a time of 49.19.
In the field, Yachi Fails won the long jump and met the “B” qualifying standard in the process with her leap of 5.53 meters. She went on to place second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.88 meters.
On the men's side, 4-time All-American Brett Campfield cruised to victory and the “A” qualifying standard in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.86. He did the same in the 1,500-meter, winning with a time of 3:55.19.
In the field, Robert Concannon cleared 4.10 meters in the pole vault, placing fourth.
Cougar Track & Field will be in action next week at the Cal/Nevada Invitational.
