Monday was the first chance for CSUSM softball fans to see their team at home, and the #8-ranked Cougars didn't disappoint, blowing out Mayville State 10-0 in game one and 17-1 in game two.

CSUSM improves to 10-3 on the year. Mayville State drops to 0-4.

Coach Dave Williams' Cougars had all three phases of the game working on Monday.  The offense posted a total of 27 runs on 27 hits in the two games. Pitcher Brenna Sandberg allowed just two hits and a run in 9 total innings of work, picking up both wins. And the defense not only recorded an error-free day, but made a handful of very nice plays, highlighted by a diving catch by centerfielder Raeven Ball in the final inning of game two.

Though the team had plenty of standouts, Alex Miller led the way. The freshman second baseman went 3-for-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI in game one, then eclipsed that with two home runs – including a grand slam – in a 3-for-4, 7 RBI game two performance.

Top-to-bottom, the entire Cougar lineup posted gaudy numbers in the double-header, including: Derrisha Lacey (4 hits, 4 runs, 2 RBI), Alicia Ingram (4 hits, 3 runs), Alyssa Dronenburg (2 hits, 3 runs), Heavin-Lee Rodriguez (a 3-run home run in game one), Shanti Poston (2 hits, 3 runs), Theresa Houle (4 hits, 5 runs, 3 RBI), Kimi Villalpando (3 hits, 5 RBI), and Kaitlin McGinley (1 hit, 1 run).

Brittany Boone finished the second game with a scoreless inning on the mound. Both games lasted 4 ½ innings due to the mercy rule.

CSUSM will face a very stiff test on Saturday at #1 Cal Baptist.
