Torres strong in first start

Box Score  A two-run home run by Point Loma's Rashad Taylor broke a seventh inning tie, as Cal State San Marcos was defeated on the road 4-1 by #8 Point Loma on Tuesday.

CSUSM drops to 6-5 on the year. Point Loma improves to 5-2.

Making his first start, Abraham Torres was excellent on the mound for the Cougars. The freshman went six strong innings, surrendering just three hits and one run while striking out one and walking one.

Torres left with the game 1-1, after CSUSM tied it in the top of the sixth. Trent Jemmett knocked a one-out single, Austin Coleman was hit by a pitch, Kevin Silvett walked, and Ryle Parks delivered a sac fly to plate the tying run.

But things went south for the Cougars when Torres exited, as Point Loma quickly pounced on the bullpen for three runs. Reliever Kyle Smart worked a scoreless eighth to keep his team in the game, but Point Loma's pitching trio of Brett Carlile, Josh Dexheimer, and Maurice Wilhelm combined to limit CSUSM to five hits on the day.

The Cougars will continue to face tough GSAC opponents, and are slated to take on Azusa Pacific at home on Friday.
