Box Score Facing some tough weather on their Hawaii trip, Cougar softball was rained out for three of its four scheduled games on Saturday, but managed to make the most of the one they got in by defeating Chaminade 1-0.
The #8-ranked Cougars improve to 7-2 on the year. Chaminade drops to 3-3.
Starting pitcher Brenna Sandberg was on her game, throwing a one-hitter with no walks while striking out eight. The only hit she allowed was a leadoff single in the fourth inning.
Meanwhile, Chaminade's Kelly Korras was nearly as good, but the Cougars were able to scratch out one run. In the fourth inning, Alex Miller led off with a huge triple to center, but was still standing at third after two groundouts. Facing the prospect of a big blown opportunity, Theresa Houle instead delivered a clutch RBI single to left field, plating Miller with what would be the game's only run.
CSUSM is scheduled to next play at Redlands on February 19th. The team's home opener will be February 21st against Mayville State.
