Cal State San Marcos women's basketball was neck-and-neck with Point Loma for most of Thursday night's contest in Oceanside, but the Cougars couldn't avoid losing their second straight game, 71-65 to the Sea Lions.
CSUSM held a 32-30 halftime lead over Point Loma, shooting over 54% in the first half, and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Unfortunately, the Cougars shooters got cold in the second half (9 of 27 FG), and turnovers would once again come to haunt the Cougars, as they have often this season. CSUSM committed 24 turnovers on the night, leading to many extra Sea Lion possessions. Poor free throw shooting down the stretch hurt the Cougars as well, as they hit only 8 of 18 in the second half.
A bright spot for the Cougars was shooting guard
Justine Chacon, who scored a game-high 24 points on the evening, on 8 of 12 shooting, including 4 of 6 from the 3-point line. Point guard
Sidney Dobner had a solid game as well, adding 7 points and game-highs of 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Michel'la Logan had 12 points for CSUSM, and
Gabriell Munsch added 10.
CSUSM drops to 5-8 in its inaugural season, while Point Loma improves to 7-4. CSUSM's next game is Saturday, December 10th at CSU Dominguez Hills.
