Box Score 2 Two home runs from Alyssa Dronenburg and one from Lauren Nelson helped power Cougar softball to a pair of wins at Bethany University on Wednesday, 9-0 in game one and 12-1 in game two, to complete a four-game sweep of the season series.
The #23-ranked Cougars are now 26-10 this season. Bethany is 2-20.
From top to bottom, both CSUSM's lineup and pitching staff enjoyed big performances on the day. Chanel Rose earned her first win of the season in game one, tossing 4 shutout innings and giving up just 4 hits while striking out 3. Rose also played an inning in right field as Ciera Ashman came in to close the game, striking out two of the three batters she faced.
At the plate, the Cougars got multi-hit games from Alicia Ingram, Dronenburg, Nelson, and Erica Coelho. Dronenburg and Nelson both went deep, combining to score 5 of the team's 9 runs in game one. Shanti Poston, Ashley Estepa, Mimi Krutein, and Elizabeth Bush all added RBI's as well.
In game two, Brenna Sandberg added to her NAIA-leading wins total with an easy four innings of scoreless work. Sandberg struck out 4 and gave up 2 hits, improving her record to 24-7 on the season. Coelho, in her first work on the mound in three season, pitched the fifth and final inning.
Dronenburg highlighted the offense, scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 while also adding her 13th home run of the season. Kimi Villalpando, Lindsey Preovolos, and Nelson all tallied a pair of RBI's each as well.
The Cougars will next be in action on Wednesday, April 7th at home against Point Loma.
