Box Score Cougar baseball ran into a hot pitcher and a good team on the road on Friday, with predictable results. Cal Baptist starter Taylor Siemens threw 8 shutout innings, leading his team to a 9-0 defeat of the Cougars.
CSUSM is now 4-3-1 on the season, while Cal Baptist improves to 8-2.
Cougar starter Richard Martin held the Lancers scoreless in the first, but a four-run second would put the home team up comfortably. Cal Baptist had eight different players with an RBI in support of Siemens, who allowed just four hits and struck out four while walking none.
The Cougars' hits came courtesy of Omar Manzanarez, Kevin Silvett, Johnny Omahen, and Steve Harris.
This was the first game of a three-game weekend series between these teams. They will face off in a double-header tomorrow.
