Box Score Playing under the lights at Escondido High, Cougar baseball lost on Friday night to Concordia, 11-2.
CSUSM is now 13-8 on the year.
After Concordia pushed across a run in the top of the first, CSUSM manufactured one of their own in the bottom of the inning. James Scott was hit by a pitch, Ricardo Moran singled, and back-to-back groundouts by Dane Ponciano and Scott Clement plated Scott to tie it at one apiece.
Concordia would add a run in each of the next three innings, chasing Cougar starter Chris Skaalen from the game. Reliever Eric Julienne would throw a scoreless fifth, getting help from a nice pick and throw by third baseman Austin Coleman.
Concordia scored a pair in the sixth, though CSUSM would get one back in the bottom of the inning thanks to an Austin Coleman RBI single that made it 6-2.
But the Eagles' offense would prove to be too much, as they continued hitting the ball out of the park with alarming regularity, led by Mike Gonzalez. Gonzalez was 5-for-5 with a home run at the plate, and on the mound he threw seven innings to pick up the win.
Cougar baseball will host Sioux Falls for a double-header on Monday.
