Softball Drops Pair of Games to Biola

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Cougar softball's four-game road win streak over GSAC teams came to a halt on Tuesday, as the squad dropped a pair of games at Biola, losing 1-0 and 6-1.

The #24 ranked Cougars are now 26-18 on the year.

Game one was a classic pitchers' duel, pitting Melissa Lerno against Biola's Kristin Larson.  The two were nearly flawless, keeping the game scoreless for the first five innings before Larson gave way to Lyndsie Roberts.

For CSUSM, Lerno was in top form on Tuesday.  She threw a complete game, allowing just six hits and no earned runs.  She walked one and struck out five.

But Lerno would end up with a very unfortunate loss.  With two outs and one on in the seventh inning of a 0-0 ballgame, an error allowed the game winning run to score.

The Cougar offense was basically shut down, save for Nicolette Nassif, who went 3-for-3 in the loss.

Game two would yield more runs, but CSUSM would come out on the wrong end of the score.

San Marcos got off to a good start, stringing together a two out rally thanks to a walk by Alyssa Dronenburg and single by Lauren Nelson.  An error allowed Dronenburg to reach the plate, making it 1-0.

That score would stand for three innings, before Biola broke through for four runs in the fourth.  They'd plate two more in the fifth and one more in the sixth to win it 7-1.

CSUSM will be at home against Point Loma on April 18th.
