Baseball Loses 12-3 at Point Loma

Box Score

Playing in some rough weather on Saturday, Cougar Baseball fell to 2-2 on the season with a 12-3 loss at Point Loma.

The Sea Lions, who are now 5-1 in 2008, took control of the game in the middle innings, blowing it open with a six-run sixth.  Right fielder Kaohi Downing led the charge, with a home run, triple, and 3 RBI, while Sea Lions' starter Andrew Bovich threw 8 innings of one-run ball.

CSUSM's bright spot on the day was outfielder James Scott.  The junior transfer from Cal State Northridge has been killing the ball in the season's first four games, and continued to do so on Saturday by going 3-for-4 with a home run.  New closer Cheyne Gorski also continued his strong play, throwing an inning of shutout ball.  He was the only Cougar pitcher not to allow an earned run on the day.

Weather-permitting, the Cougars will be back in action on Monday when they open their home season against San Diego Christian at Escondido High School.
