SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Ashley Jenkins of the women's basketball team and
Darnell Taylor of the men's basketball team have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for December 2015.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Jenkins takes home the honor for the first time this season. Taylor won the award last month, as well.
Jenkins, a junior guard from Oroville, Calif., averaged 12 points, 3 assists and 3.4 rebounds during the month, helping the Cougars to a pair of CCAA victories. She recorded three double doubles and scored a season-high 25 points at Sonoma State on Dec. 5.
Taylor, a senior guard from Los Angeles, averaged 22 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4 assists while helping the Cougars to a 4-2 mark during the month. He earned CCAA Player of the Week honors on Dec. 8 and scored 30 points in a win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Dec. 31.
Taylor was also named a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month on Tuesday.
