SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Natalie Lara of the women's soccer team and
Louie Farfan of the men's soccer team have been named the Cal State San Marcos Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Month for September 2015, respectively.
The CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates at student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Lara, a senior midfielder from Buena Park, scored twice and had four total points as the team went 1-4-3 in the month of September. She played the most minutes of any offensive player and started all eight games.
Her goal in CSUSM's 2-1 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Sept. 20 helped the Cougars to their first-ever win in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Farfan, a junior center-mid from San Diego, scored a team-high four goals and led the team with eight points, 16 shots and seven shots on goal. He scored in each of the Cougars' first three CCAA matches and tallied the first goal in a 3-0 victory over previously-undefeated Stanislaus State for the team's first-ever CCAA victory on Sept. 25.
