SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Natalie Rodriguez of the women's cross country team and
Dylan Healey of the men's golf team have been named the Cal State San Marcos Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Month for the month of October 2015.
The CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Rodriguez, a sophomore from Santa Clarita, earned
All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) honors by taking fifth place at the CCAA Cross Country Championships. Her time of 21:39.3 in the 6K shed 34.5 seconds off her previous personal best, and it missed the CSUSM record by just .3 seconds.
Her performance helped lead the team to an unofficial third-place finish, just a pair of points behind runner-up UC San Diego.
Healey, a senior out of Franklin, Tenn.,
earned medalist honors at the InterWest Wildcat Classic, Oct. 5-6 with a total of 5-under par 211 (72-66-73). The Cougars took home the tournament team title as well, beating out current No. 1 Chico State. He was named
CCAA Golfer of the Week on Oct. 7.
Healey averaged 70.83 strokes over his six rounds played, and also took 10
th at the CSUSM Fall Classic with a score of 2-under 214 (71-69-74).
He also won the award on May 5, 2015.
