Fernando Brown was named the department's Sports Performance Coach in July 2021 after serving as the Interim Sports Performance Coach since the summer of 2020.
Brown was previously named the Assistant Director of Athletics, Operations in September of 2018. He previously served as the Athletics Operations Coordinator/Equipment Manager beginning in July 2015.
Brown manages all gameday operations including game staffing, set up and breakdown, game environment and ticket sales. In addition, he handles all equipment and apparel inventory for CSUSM’s athletic teams.
In 2016, Brown interned with the Indianapolis Colts during training camp and reported to the Director of Operations. Brown’s responsibilities included training camp logistics and coordinating travel.
During the 2014-15 season, Brown served as the Director of Operations for the CSUSM men’s basketball team. He helped manage the team budget, led and coordinated travel accommodations and played a key role in the team’s annual fundraiser.
From 2010-11, Brown served as the full time public media relations intern with the San Diego Chargers. He later served as a member of the San Diego Chargers game day operations staff until 2017.
From 2011-13, Brown was an Academic & Life Skills Coordinator at UC Irvine. He was responsible for monitoring degree programs for 120 athletes, overseeing their eligibility and progress towards graduation, book scholarship program and identifying personal development opportunities.
Between 2009-11, Brown served on the San Diego State football staff in football operations. He coordinated day-to-day team operations and the logistics for summer camps while assisting with overseeing the operational budget.
He received his Bachelor’s in Social Sciences from Cal State San Marcos in 2006. In 2011, he earned his Master’s in Education Leadership – Student Affairs from San Diego State. Brown holds valid accreditations as a Certified Personal Trainer from the National Academy of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise.
