Adam Ellis originally joined the department as the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach in August 2019 and was reappointed to the position in July 2021.
Ellis came to CSUSM after spending three seasons at Saint Martin's University in Lacey, Washington.
In 2018-19, Ellis helped the Saints reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Divison II Men's Basketball Championship after posting an overall record of 26-6 and a 17-3 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
The Saints reached the Round of 32 in Ellis' second year at Saint Martin's as they cruised to a 25-8 overall record and a 15-5 GNAC record.
Prior to taking over the assistant coaching gig at Saint Martin's in 2016-17, Ellis served as the head coach at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon, for the previous four seasons. Ellis' first head coaching position occurred at Tekoa-Oakesdale where he served for two seasons.
Ellis got his start in coaching as a student assistant at Eastern Washington where he earned his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching. He then completed his master's degree at Concordia Irvine in Coaching and Athletic Administration.
Prior to transferring to Eastern Washington, Ellis played basketball at Spokane Community College.
