Matt Bergandi

Entering his sixth season of coaching collegiate baseball in 2023, Matt Bergandi joined the department as the Assistant Baseball Coach in August 2021. Bergandi will be taking charge of the pitching staff and working as the team's Recruiting Coordinator.

Bergandi was previously a Volunteer Assistant Coach at the University of San Diego for the 2021 season. He was in charge of the outfielders and hitters. In 2019-2020, he was the Director of Player Development and helped the pitching staff. He coached alongside Rich Hill after he was a player for him during his college career.

Prior to USD, Bergandi was a Volunteer Assistant Coach for San Francisco State during the 2019 season and was in charge of the catchers and the hitters. Bergandi spent the 2018 season as an Assistant Coach at Mission College in Santa Clara where he was in charge of the pitching staff and recruiting. At Mission College, Bergandi spent time underneath former MLB player and University of Miami Hall of Famer, Bobby Hill. At Mission, the Saints went along to win their conference and lead the league in hitting and pitching statistics. 

Bergandi also spent time as a summer baseball head coach and assistant coach for the San Diego League. Bergandi’s team’s won the inaugural 2019 season where he served as the Hitting Coach. In 2020 as a Head Coach, his team came in second place. In his time with San Diego League, Bergandi helped develop players to get them ready for the next level.

In 2020, Bergandi was the Head Field Coordinator for the San Diego Padres alternative site at USD.

Bergandi is a 2018 graduate of Fresno Pacific University with a degree in Kinesiology.
