Eric Hutting

  • Title
    Assistant Baseball Coach
The Cal State San Marcos baseball team welcomed a new addition to its coaching staff as head coach Matt Guiliano named Eric Hutting as the team's new assistant coach on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

Hutting comes to CSUSM from Regis University where he was the assistant coach/pitching coach last season.

"Eric is a great hire for us," Guiliano said. "He comes from a baseball family blood line with a lot of baseball ties on the west coast. Eric caught at Long Beach State and got into coaching at the junior college ranks before moving to an NCAA Division II institution at Regis. He knows what it takes to compete and succeed at a high level. I am extremely excited to get him back to the West Coast and have Eric bring in recruiting classes that fit the CSUSM mold of high character student-athletes. Eric is going to hit the ground running, and I'm thrilled for him to get after it."

Prior to his first NCAA Division II gig, Hutting spent two seasons as an assistant in the Orange Empire Conference. In 2018, he took over pitching coach duties for Golden West College, and in 2017, he served as the first base and hitting coach at Cypress College.

In 2017 and 2018, Hutting served as the pitching coach for the Anchorage Bucs in the Alaska Baseball League.

A four-year catcher at Long Beach State, Hutting graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies in 2016. He started 140 games behind the plate for the Dirtbags and threw out 39% of would-be base stealers. He helped LBSU make two NCAA Regional appearances in 2014 and 2016 and was named an Academic All-Star in 2013 and 2014. He then went on to earn his master's degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific in 2017.

A native of Rancho Santa Margarita, Hutting attended Tesoro High School and was a four-year letter winner in baseball. He earned All-South Coast League honors in 2011 and 2012 and was a member of the Academic Honor Roll in 2009 and 2010.
