SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (2-1-5, 0-1-2 CCAA) suffered its first defeat of the season, losing 2-0 to Cal State Monterey Bay (3-2-2, 1-2-0 CCAA) on Friday afternoon at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an Otter corner kick, Juliana Dow took possession off a Cougar deflection and put a shot into the net to give CSUMB a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute.
- CSUMB had the edge in shots (4-2), shots on goal (3-2) and corner kicks (4-1) in the first 45 minutes.
- Monterey Bay made it a 2-0 game in the 65th minute. After a Cougar defender blocked Ashleigh Carroll's initial shot, Carroll put the rebound into the left corner of the goal from the right side.
- The Cougars had the second-half advantage in shots (7-1) and shots on goal (5-1), while the Otters had the edge in corner kicks (3-2).
QUICK KICKS
- CSUSM ended the game with the lead in shots (9-5) and shots on goal (7-4), while CSUMB took more corner kicks (7-3).
- This was the Cougars' first hiccup against the Otters since 2019.
- CSUSM still owns a 7-2-2 record in the all-time series against CSUMB.
