CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (20-8, 7-6 CCAA) dropped its series opener at Cal State Dominguez Hills (14-16, 6-11 CCAA) by a score of 14-3 on Thursday afternoon at Toro Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Toros jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single up the middle by Alex Sepulveda and a sacrifice fly to right by Angel Cortez.
- A seven-run inning by CSUDH gave it a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the third on RBI singles by Cortez and Eric Arreola, a base-clearing double by Zac Ragland and back-to-back RBI doubles by Tristan Usher and Nigel Buckley.
- CSUSM broke up the shutout in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer to right center by Canon King to cut the deficit to 9-2.
- An RBI double up the middle by Malik Balloue and a bases-clearing double to right center by Julio Camarena put Dominguez Hills up 13-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
- Jake Larson hit an RBI single through the right side to make it a 13-3 game in the top of the seventh.
- A solo homer to right center by Usher was the final run of the game as the Toros went up 14-3 in the bottom of the seventh.

- Toro starter and former Cougar Jordan Townley (2-2) earned the win after striking out three while allowing three earned runs on five hits and a walk in 6.0 innings.
- Cougar starter PJ Wendler (6-1) took his first loss of the year after giving up eight earned runs on nine hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch while striking out six in 2.2 innings.
- King's eighth homer of the season extended his team-best reached-base and hitting streaks at 16 and 12 games, respectively.
