Zech Samayoa - NCBWA West Region Player of the Week

Samayoa Named NCBWA West Region Player of the Week

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – After earning CCAA Player of the Week honors on Monday, Cal State San Marcos' Zech Samayoa has been selected as the West Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Samayoa led CSUSM with a .667 batting average, three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs, and 19 total bases in the Cougars' series win over Stanislaus State. The redshirt senior had an RBI and hit in each game while posting a .688 on-base percentage and a 1.583 slugging percentage.

In Saturday's opener, Samayoa homered and drove in three. He followed up in the nightcap by going 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs.

Samayoa leads CSUSM with 10 home runs, 35 runs batted in, 66 total bases, a 1.447 OPS, a .971 slugging percentage and a .382 batting average for the year. He is tied for third in the CCAA in home runs and is fifth in RBIs.

This is the first NCBWA West Region Player of the Week nod for Samayoa, and he's just the second Cougar to earn the award in team history, as Garrett Teunissen first earned the honor in 2024.

The second-place Cougars will be on the road this week to face Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game set starting on Thursday at 3 p.m. in Carson.
