No. 2 CSUSM Stays Perfect at Home at 12-0, Completes Series Sweep Over SFSU

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 2 Cal State San Marcos softball team (28-3, 10-2 CCAA) completed its second CCAA series sweep of the season on Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field, taking down San Francisco State (13-14, 4-8 CCAA) by scores of 6-5 and 9-4 to remain a perfect 12-0 at home in 2026.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM opened the scoring in the second inning when Marissa Morales singled through the right side to bring home Hannah Tandy for a 1–0 lead.
  • After the Gators tied the game in the third on an unearned run, the Cougars responded with a two‑run inning highlighted by an RBI double from Czar Fleischman and a run‑scoring fielder's choice by Lauren Deplitch.
  • CSUSM extended its lead to 5–1 in the fourth as Zoe Karam doubled home a run before scoring on a catcher error moments later.
  • SF State rallied with three runs in the fifth and tied the game 5–5 in the sixth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After falling behind 2–0 in the third, CSUSM answered immediately. With two runners aboard, Jillian Albayati launched a three‑run homer to center, giving the Cougars a 3–2 lead. San Francisco State tied the game in the fifth, but the Cougars responded with a three‑run surge in the bottom half, fueled by RBI singles from Albayati and Zoe Karam.
  • CSUSM added three more in the sixth as Olivia Rivera singled home a run, Jordan Elias followed with a base hit, and Albayati drew a bases‑loaded walk before Karam crushed a three‑run homer to right, her second home run of the day across both games.
  • Jordan Hill and Hailey Shiftlett combined to hold the Gators to six hits while the Cougar offense capitalized on timely swings and six drawn walks.
