Cougars Fall to CSUSB in Fourth-Quarter Battle

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (7-14, 4-12 CCAA) fell 63-52 to Cal State San Bernardino (9-12, 7-9 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kristan Yumul tied the game at 10-10 with a 3-pointer at 2:39, but CSUSB closed the quarter on a 6-2 spurt to take a 16-12 lead after one.
  • The Coyotes extended their advantage to 21-17 early in the second quarter before CSUSM responded with a 7-0 run, capped by a Mylah Lewis layup at 3:21, to go in front 24-21.
  • CSUSM carried a 28-26 lead into the halftime break after shooting 28.6% (8-of-28) from the field to CSUSB's 35.7% (10-of-28).
  • The third quarter featured four ties and multiple lead changes, with Haan's 3-pointer at 3:05 giving the Cougars their largest lead at 35-30.
  • CSUSB answered late in the period and tied the game at 40-40 heading into the fourth quarter on a fast-break layup at the buzzer.
  • CSUSM led 50-45 with 6:18 remaining in the fourth, but CSUSB responded with a decisive 10-0 run to regain control.
  • The Coyotes sealed the game at the free-throw line over the final minute to secure the 63-52 victory.
