No. 1 CSUSM Sets New DII Era Standard With 16-Game Win Streak

TRACY, Calif. — The No. 1 Cal State San Marcos softball team (18–1) continued its historic tear on Saturday, extending its winning streak to 16 games — the longest in the program's NCAA Division II era — as the Cougars rallied for a 10–6 victory over Western Washington (8-8) before closing the West Region Crossover with a 7–0 shutout of Western Oregon (7-8).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Western Washington jumped out to an early 4–0 lead in the first inning, taking advantage of multiple walks and a two‑run single to seize momentum right away. The Vikings added another run in the second to extend their lead to 5–0.
  • The Cougars began to rally in the second inning when Czar Fleischman doubled and scored on a groundout. CSUSM continued to cut into the deficit in the third as Zoe Karam launched a two‑run homer to left-center, pulling the Cougars within 5–3.
  • After WWU added a solo home run in the fourth, CSUSM erupted for a three‑run fifth inning to tie the contest. Morales singled, Karam pushed in a run, and Fleischman crushed a two‑run double to even the score at 6–6.
  • The Cougars completed their comeback with a four‑run sixth inning that included a sacrifice fly from Morales, an RBI single from Karam, and aggressive base running that allowed Jordan Elias to steal home. CSUSM took control from there and secured the 10–6 win.

  • CSUSM took advantage early, scoring in the first inning after Kaila Siu walked, stole second, and came home on a groundout by Zoe Karam. The Cougars broke the game open with a four‑run second inning highlighted by an RBI sacrifice fly from Olivia Rivera, a two‑run single by Jordan Elias, and an RBI single from Marissa Morales.
  • The Cougars continued to pressure the Wolves offensively while Jordan Hill controlled the game in the circle, scattering six hits without allowing a run. CSUSM added two more insurance runs in the seventh when Jordan Munn punched a two‑RBI single to extend the lead to 7–0.
