HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (6-10, 3-8 CCAA) dropped a 74-52 decision to Cal State East Bay (7-11, 6-5 CCAA) on Thursday evening at Pioneer Gym in Hayward, Calif.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cal State East Bay opened the game on a 14-0 run over the first 8:10, holding CSUSM without a field goal until Maddie Leiva sunk a 3-pointer at the 1:50 mark.
- The Pioneers put together a 9-0 run midway through the second quarter to extend the margin to 26-8 at the 5:13 mark.
- Back-to-back baskets by Kaitlyn Beall in the paint at 4:55 and 4:31 helped the Cougars stay within reach as the Pioneers maintained control.
- CSUSM took a 40-21 deficit into the halftime break after shooting 32.4% (11-of-34) from the field compared to Cal State East Bay's 48.0% (12-of-25).
- The Pioneers opened the third quarter with a 14-2 surge, pushing their lead to 54-31 with 2:18 remaining in the period.
- Leiva drained a three-pointer at 4:57 of the third quarter, followed by a Kaity Haan basket at 3:27, as CSUSM worked to generate momentum late in the frame.
