SAN MARCOS, Calif. — The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (1-10, 0-3 CCAA) dropped a hard-fought five-set match (26-24, 27-25, 10-25, 23-25, 13-15) to Cal State East Bay (5-6, 2-1 CCAA) on Friday night at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set 1 (CSUSM 26, CSUEB 24): The Cougars rallied from a 15-11 deficit with a 5-0 run behind Livingston-Jones' serving. Kranz delivered four kills in the final stretch, and CSUSM sealed the set with a block by Tindall and Trower.
- Set 2 (CSUSM 27, CSUEB 25): A back-and-forth set saw CSUSM edge out the Pioneers in extra points. Cooley and Kranz combined for nine kills, and Trower closed the set with back-to-back kills.
- Set 3 (CSUEB 25, CSUSM 10): East Bay dominated the third set, hitting .321 while holding CSUSM to a negative hitting percentage. The Cougars struggled to find rhythm offensively.
- Set 4 (CSUEB 25, CSUSM 23): CSUSM led 20-19 late, but East Bay responded with a 6-3 run to force a fifth set. Cooley and Kranz each had four kills in the frame.
- Set 5 (CSUEB 15, CSUSM 13): The Cougars held a 13-12 lead before East Bay closed the match with three straight points, including two kills from Barakat Adekola.

- Addison Kranz led the Cougars with 18 kills with Kacie Cooley following with 17 kills.
- East Bay now leads the all-time series at 8-7.
- This was CSUSM's third time going five sets in the 15 meetings with the Cougars winning one of three.
