SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (8-9) fell 16-4 to No. 1 Tampa (17-3) in the series finale on Monday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM got out to a fast start in the bottom of the first as it took a 3-0 lead on a two-run double by Zavien Watson and an RBI sacrifice bunt by Tyler Weaver.
- Tampa responded in the top of the second with a two-run homer by Kevin Karstetter, a bases-loaded walk by Edgardo Villegas and a grand slam by JD Urso to take a 7-3 lead.
- The Spartans added four more runs in the top of the fourth with an RBI double by Urso, an RBI single through the right side by Lenny Ashby, a sacrifice fly by Cole Russo and an RBI double by Brayden Woodburn to make it an 11-3 game.
- An RBI single by Lenny Ashby increased Tampa's lead to 12-3 in the top of the fifth.
- The Spartans tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth after back-to-back hit-by-pitches with the bases loaded and an RBI fielder's choice by JD Urso to take a 15-3 lead.
- An RBI single by Dylan Unangst gave the Cougars a run in the bottom of the seventh and cut the deficit to 15-4.
- In the top of the ninth, Nico Saladino hit a leadoff homer to right to give Tampa a 16-4 lead.

- Spartan starter Robert Satin (1-0) earned the win after striking out four and allowing three earned runs on six hits in 5.0 innings.
- Cougar starter Zach Coleman (1-3) took the loss after allowing seven runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out one in 1.2 innings.
